Components of Leflunomide 20MG

Leflunomide (20 mg): A disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) that is rapidly converted in the body to its active metabolite, teriflunomide (also known as A77 1726). It works by inhibiting the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase, which reduces the production of pyrimidine needed for the growth of inflammatory white blood cells.

Lactose Monohydrate: Used as a filler or diluent; 20 mg tablets typically contain between 36 mg and 152 mg of lactose.

Maize Starch (including Pregelatinized Starch): Acts as a binder and disintegrant to help the tablet hold together and later break down.

Crospovidone: A "super-disintegrant" that helps the tablet dissolve quickly.

Magnesium Stearate: A lubricant that prevents the tablet from sticking to machinery during manufacturing.

Colloidal Anhydrous Silica: Enhances the flow of ingredients during the manufacturing process.

Uses of Leflunomide 20MG

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): Used to reduce signs and symptoms, improve physical function, and retard structural damage in moderate to severe active RA.

Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA): Helps manage joint inflammation and associated skin lesions for those with psoriatic arthritis.

Off-label Uses: Sometimes prescribed for other autoimmune conditions such as Crohn's disease or lupus, though these uses require careful specialist supervision.
